Last week for FHE we decided to make a craft out of Family Fun magazine. I always have such good intentions when that magazine comes in the mail. Everything is so cute and the families look so happy doing projects together. All the children are smiling, the mothers are angelically patient, and the father's look smug that their family is so perfect. So I decided that would be us! We decided to make the tie-dye pumpkin shirts for all the kids. And it turned out almost exactly like in the magazine except for a few things...I fogot to buy rubberbands. So when we went to start the project, we had to go to our dependable neighbor, Donna, and borrow some. Of course she had several bags. It was pretty hard for Sarah to get the bands on tightly, so it took us most of our evening to get the shirts ready. By the time we finished, we didn't have time to put them in the dye, so we had to put that off until the next day. The kids were pretty disappointed.
The next afternoon after school, the only one who was still interested in helping was Rachel. So she and I finished the dying part.
Unfortunately, when she was cutting rubber bands out, she held the shirts on her lap, which then dyed her shorts bright orange in the lap area. We had to go ahead and dye them completely to salvage them at all. But now they match her shirt very well! And we got so into the project that we forgot she was supposed to be getting ready for dance and we weren't ready for her ride when they came.
Luckily everybody got interested again when it was time to stamp on the jack o' lantern faces. Jared opted out of the pumpkin option ( I can't imagine why) and decided to make a swim shirt instead.
Rachel put a creepy spider on her shoulder.Just like in the magazine, the pictures make it look like it was tons of fun. And actually, it was, despite our setbacks. We'll have to try again when next months issue comes with more ideas.

These shirts look so great! There's a reason they call it 'Family Fun'.
If it had all gone smoothly and perfectly you would just be making the rest of us feel inadequate so, good job!
After I saw those cute shirts I went and bought the mag...I love family fun. The comic strip on my blog should be a bunch of mags on raising a family with my 3 kids running a muck all around me....
They turned out great. You are a good mom to even attempt this with the kids.
Stop with the cuteness already!!
You are such a fun Mom, it makes me jealous. And Rachel, she is so pretty.
You are so brave. I must be a craft-a-phobic. I would never think it fun to mix dye and children together. So, I am in awe. Between you and your crafts and Sara and her projects....
