I am the Little Red Hen

I have just finished rolling out my four loaves of wheat bread that I have made for my family. Before that I shoveled the driveway (it was pointless- it just started snowing again). Prior to that I ground about 35 cups of wheat flour (not by hand- I have a machine). And I have fifteen minutes during the quick raising portion of this great recipe to sneak down and write about it. So I'm sure my kids will come home from school and want to eat the delicious bread- and I'm such a sucker, I'll let them. So I'm actually not the Little Red Hen, but I sure made a mess like she did of flour and such.

For FHE last night we talked about New Year's Resolutions. And that is why I made bread today. I want my family to do the 5/2/1/0 commitment, and I also want to feed them more whole grains. But the only wheat bread they actually like is Frankie's Freaky Fast Wheat Bread, which means that I have to make it. So I made a goal to make wheat bread twice a month. And I need to start up making the artisan french bread again, so if we alternate those two, we should be eating healthier breads all the time. I couldn't commit to wheat bread every week, because I know I won't actually do it.

I made hopefully realistic resolutions. I shared a few others, and we went around the room and everybody in the family came up with some great ideas for themselves. I don't think they'd want me to blog them, but they were great. And then it was Sarah's turn. She came up with some great resolutions for everybody else. "Mom and Dad, you can spend less time on the computer (that's so she can play Webkinz more), Jared you need to stop flicking people with your rubber lizard, Mom you should yell less..." She really had a hard time thinking of something that she needed to improve on.

I think I've settled on my word for the year, but it's time to put the bread in, so I'll have to blog about it in a separate post.

The Little Red Hen is currently Seth's favorite bedtime story. It's just that he refers to it as The Talking Chicken. So, maybe you are the Little Red Hen? I'm just sayin'....
