Just a Slip

"I don't want to be rude, but that doctor was awful. After he told me he just needed to find out where my foot hurts, he kept poking it in the same place, over and over!" This was Rachel's assessment last night when I tucked her into bed. She sprained her ankle at school, so we spent the morning at the Instacare getting her x-rayed and splinted. Her foot was very swollen and sore, but her biggest disappointment was that she had to miss the entire day of school. The afternoon was wiled away with her sister getting her numerous ice packs, ice waters, cold waters... whatever enabled Maren to get access to the fridge water supply, Rachel needed. She's a trooper. And her Grandma Walton brought over her very own banana pie to make her feel better.

This morning, she insisted she was able to go to school and hobbled into our bedroom to prove that she was strong enough. I laced her splint up good and tight and gave her strict instructions to call me if she gets too sore. It's after lunchtime, and so far so good. She was so cute yesterday when I picked her up from school. She had fallen just before the morning bell rang and her friends ran inside to get help. Her principal came out to help her into the building. While we were at the clinic, she kept telling me how glad she was it had happened at school where there were so many people to help her. I need to be more like that-- grateful for the good parts. Thanks for the example, Rach.
