A Brutus Pelt

Yesterday Maren and I got to accompany Sarah's class on a field trip to the nature center. We're really lucky in our school district, because we have a one-classroom building on the banks of the river for teaching life cycles, nature stuff, etc... Maren's favorite part was the bus ride, which, frankly, is why I signed up in the first place.

During our visit, the kids all got to feel some animal pelts. They had beaver, fox, wolf, mink and rabbit. We talked about how their fur protects them from the winter. Many of the children were interested about where the pelts came from and if they were real. The teacher assured them that sometimes when animals die from other causes, scientists or teachers preserve their furs to use for learning. They all felt okay about that.

During dinner last night, Sarah had a brainstorm. "Mom, I know!!! When Brutus dies, we can take his fur off and give it to the nature center. They didn't even have a dog fur yet!"

Now that is truly the spirit of generosity.

I can guarantee that a dog fur donation will be a real thrill for the learning center. What an original donation!

Do they just have pelts? Or could you get him taxidermied and donate his whole body for kids to learn about. Just a thought.

I think you should make brutus into a winter hat! Kind of like ol' Spike Lee's groovy hat. Imagine the possibilites!!! - Randy

HAHAHAHA!!!! Oh miss Sarah, where does she come up with these hilarious things?! You better make sure this is okay with Brutus first, he might want to be buried in Donna's yard. :)
