My email today.

I had a surprising and disappointing email today- especially after all my agonizing about which three pairs of underwear to pack. Oh well, I guess I can stop trying to roll my 'r's for a while. My children will be happy that I'm not spraying them with spit every night. We are cancelling all our reservations and putting our plane tickets on hold. The plan is apparently to find a new facility and go in November.

Dear Team- It is with much regret and sadness we inform you that we will NOT be leaving next week for Guatemala.
In brief, the Military Hospital just got a new administrator who tore up our written agreement with them and we, at this late date, started over on negotiations. The negotiations fell through this morning. At first they wanted $19,000.00 for us to pay them to use their hospital. Then they changed the charges to approximately $14,000.00 for 70 children and $12,000.00 for 50 children.
Our counter proposal was for just what we needed of their facility and came out to about $4,000.00. They did not accept this and countered with an even higher amount than stated before.
In good conscience we can not pay that much money. It is Guatemalan military robbery.

Oh man. That sucks! It's my whole getting psyched and ready for the marathon and having it cancelled at the starting line metaphor! Good job looking on the bright side, but what a letdown. I'll call you later.

Oh dang it!!! How long does that horrible medicine stuff last? I'm so sorry. It must be because it's Friday the 13th!

OH NO! I'm sorry too, Amy. That is awful. I really wish it could be different.

I guess the only bright side is that now you won't miss your ballroom class that week?

Oh Amy--what a huge blow! I'm so sorry! I think we need to have a "Amy's not going to Guatamala this month" date night now. I'm especially sorry when I think about those children.

I am so sorry! Such a big let down for you. It's appalling that politics and greed get in the way of helping innocent children in need.
We'll be praying for the November plan to go through. And, hey, you should probably keep practicing your r rolls if you are as bad as you say you are. It could take some time!
