Images from Guatemala

I am pretty sure I can't describe the trip I just came back from, so I'll just share a few photos for the essence of it. A Guatemalan carpool that came to the screening day.

Before lip repair.......after- what a doll.

Before lip repair.......after. His mom is wearing a traditional dress.

Before bilateral lip and palate repair......after, right before he was moved out of the OR. He was so cute- he had colored all over his hands and feet with marker before his surgery.
Here I am looking official and surgical. My friend Angie Robins.
Another picture to show the dresses they wear and an unrepaired lip.
Unrepaired bilateral lip. This boy was adorable. Actually, they all were.
Before...
after! I could probably post 100 pictures, but you don't want to be subjected to reading this blog all day, so that much should give you a taste of what it was like. It was a great trip, and I learned so much about what these little kiddos go through having these types of procedures. It's going to be very beneficial for my professional skills, so if nothing else, I selfishly appreciated the learning curve. The country was amazing, and we got to go some places I don't think the typical tourist ends up. And if you're interested in seeing grody surgery photos, come on over.

Wow! The afters are incredible! (Except I didn't see an after of the bi-lateral kid with the sticker on his head?)
What an experience. Glad you're home and safe!

I imagine it would be hard to find the words to convey all that you experienced on this trip. I'm so glad you were able to go. I am sure it is something that will stick with you for a lifetime and no doubt it changed the lives of those sweet little children.

I've been waiting for you to get back and share and it was worth the wait.

Also, you DO look very surgical and official!

How fantastic and did you come back with anything? Paul came back with a bum shoulder but besides that he was normal.

Those photos combined with what you told me yesterday made me cry. We take a lot for granted.

Wow! That's all I can say! What an incredible experience. How amazing. It's unbelievable what surgery can do for these beautiful children. How did you just not take one home with you?! I like the carpool idea...do you think that would slide here? Probably not!
