That time of year again

This article is from last year, but it's going on again right now!! And tomorrow we are headed there as it luckily coincides exactly with my cousin's wedding reception just down the road. Jared, of course, will be scouting for a new t-shirt, the girls will love the rodeo portion (which another cousin is participating in) and I love the hamburgers. And by the way, they're not that bad. Maybe I'll put a recipe for them on the food blog, any takers?

WOODRUFF, Utah, June 1 (UPI) -- The eighth annual Testicle Festival in Woodruff, Utah, has helped raised nearly $30,000 for charity by dispensing plenty of bull testicles, volunteers say.

Festival volunteer Lori Cornia said in addition to raising donations, the Black Gold Cattle Co. event served plenty of deep-fried bull testicles, also known as "Rocky Mountain Oysters," The Salt Lake Tribune reported Sunday.

"Some people have trouble with them," Cornia said of the festival's culinary delight.

"Just think of it as veal," she added for those a bit leary of the edible undertaking.

The event, which had 250 pounds of the "Oysters" available for visitors, also included old-time rodeo events such as team branding and range bull riding.

For Cornia, the festival marks an annual chance for people to enjoy the food once seen as a rare treat by farmers' friends and family.

"It was considered a treat, since they only got it once a year," she told the Tribune of the testicular treats. "Of course, you probably wouldn't want to eat it more than that."

Hmmm. I really wish I were going to be there to see the family. Eating the oysters? Not so much.
Have fun!
