101 Fun Things of Summer

We have a list on our bulletin board in the kitchen. It's the 101 Fun Things of Summer. Whenever we do something great we write it on the list and fill in a blank. Right now we're on #71. With just 2 1/2 weeks left of summer, we're on a quest to fill the list!

We went up Tibble Fork and kayaked on Friday. We had planned on returning to Silver Flat, but the water was so far down in just two weeks we went back to Tibble. On Saturday we went to Jordanelle with Ryan's parents to waterski. After a 2.5 hour delay involving a flat tire on the boat trailer (what is is with me and flats lately?) we made it to the lake and had a good time. Maren even did well with no nap.

We've hit a bit of a rut on our international cooking nights, but last night we made a semi-effort. Jared had picked "Ireland food" for this week, but Sarah kept saying it as "Island food" and it was so cute we decided to go with it. So we grilled pork chops and pineapple and made teriyaki rice bowls. Maybe not authentic but we're alright with that.

We went school supply shopping on Monday night. The kids are getting really excited for school and spent about an hour after we got home organizing folders and paper, filling backpacks, and talking about what school is going to be like. Jared is starting 7th grade and will go to Jr. High, which really throws off my young-and-hip-mom vibe. How can I be a young mom with a Jr High student? I'm not sure, but I'm trying to deal with it. Rachel is going into 3rd grade. Sarah keeps telling us she's only "part 5" because you're only really 5 when you start kindergarten. So, finally in a couple weeks she can say she's made it. Maren is turning 2 this month, and yesterday tested the waters by coloring on the couch cushions with black pen. I already tried hairspray and it didn't touch it. Oh well. Maybe in a few years I'll look at those marks fondly (at least I'm trying to tell myself that). We also found out the daycare we use is closing, and I dropped my blender and broke it. It was just one of those days. I think I need another day at the lake (without a flat tire on the way please.)

I'll keep my eyes and ears open for a day care solution. Wish I could solve the marker problem too. You're as young as you feel--(which means I'm pretty old.) Jared is going to take Junior High in great stride!

What a day! I'm sorry you had so much crap. I hate when household stuff breaks. I hope today is lots better for ya!

Those pictures turned out great! Wow! BTW, I won't be able to go up swimming next Wednesday (Dr's appointment). We've got to plan a big swimming day before the kids start school!

What a fun idea! You are so creative to come up with 101 things during 3 months! I love it! I can't believe Jared is going to be in 7th grade! Time flies! You're still young and hip though in my book!

Oh Amy! What a stinky day! (Whenever I dropped a major item it meant I was pregnant ... I'm just saying ...) I did love the water play pictures though.

Amy, have you tried running a dry erase marker over the permanent marker? I know it works on solid surfaces; don't know about fabrics. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose at this point. Sounds like you're all having a fun summer. We need to catch up sometime. - Randy
